GREEN BAY at DETROIT |

GREEN BAY (+7) at DETROIT -- At Lambeau last week, the Saints had three turnovers early, which the Packers converted into 17 points. Then Green Bay proceeded to blow the lead and lose by seven at home to a team that was in a rare position of laying points on the road. Clearly this packer crew is not ready to win games. Brett Favre was forced to throw 55 times because his running game wasn't quite working for him (just 63 yards), and he doesn't want to get into that situation again encountering a Detroit front that is an improvement over what he saw from New Orleans. Mike Martz's new offense is obviously still a work in progress (the Lions converted only one third down against Chicago), but Detroit owns the best unit on the field, which is its defense, something new head coach Rod Marinelli takes pride in. The Lions have risen to the occasion in this series, covering eight of the last nine meetings at home against the Pack. And it's kind of frightening to think of what the Saints could have done to Favre's club had they not committed so many first-quarter mistakes. JAY'S PLAY: DETROIT * |
