WASHINGTON at HOUSTON

WASHINGTON (-4) at HOUSTON -- Mark Brunell looks shaky now, but those results came against playoff contenders Minnesota and Dallas. Houston is not a playoff contender, and Texans have had problems on both sides of the ball. David Carr has matured, and the OL is protecting him better (not hard to do, considering past performances), but the patchwork running attack can't stand up. Ron Dayne was added right before the end of training camp, and Samkon Gado got there after the season started, and it's got to take more time than that to get some timing down with the linemen. Gary Kubiak's running back-by-committee not likely to work like it did in Denver, until he gets better blockers. Carr's three TD passes last week came in garbage time; meanwhile, Clinton Portis back in Redskin backfield to change the character of that offense. Washington DB's handle Houston wideouts Johnson & Moulds. And Joe Gibbs sees his confidence in Brunell justified - at least for this week.
