SOUTH FLORIDA (+4) at KANSAS -- Kansas hung in there and got to overtime against Toledo last Friday, despite committing five turnovers. The man responsible (with 4 INT's and a fumble), redshirt freshman QB Kerry Meier, suffered an arm injury in the fourth quarter, to the extent that coach Mark Mangino admitted he should have pulled him. Meier is still hurting, and his throwing motion has been altered. But he's got some offensive help with RB Jon Cornish (332 yards on 5.9 ypc). That's more than can be said for his fellow frosh, USF quarterback Matt Grothe, who leads all freshman signal-callers in passing yards but will be facing by far his sternest test in Lawrence, were the Jayhawks have covered 10 of last 13. This is a manageable number. JAY'S PLAYS: KANSAS ** |
