BALL STATE (+17) at PURDUE -- Ball State was outgained in the opener by an Eastern Michigan team that did not get any production whatsoever from its running backs, then facilitated some offense by an Indiana team that is just getting its feet wet with a pass-happy attack. Purdue is hardly machine-like, but under Joe Tiller it is a lot further advanced offensively than the aforementioned Ball State opponents. However, Purdue's sieve-like secondary let Miami of Ohio run amok last week, as the Boilermakers were taken to overtime. Ball State's QB Joey Lynch is no slouch, and he has been spelled on occasion - explosively, we might add - by redshirt freshman Nate Davis, who has thrown three touchdown passes in his second-team role. The Cardinals may not be able to keep this within the number, but they can make a donnybrook out of it.
