IOWA STATE at IOWA -- This is a big recruiting game, obviously, and Iowa is looking for a measure of revenge after being blown away by a 23-3 score in last year's meeting. In that game, Iowa State forced Hawkeye QB Drew Tate into a plethora of mistakes, including two interceptions, while gaining two more yards per rush. Don't know if revenge works for us all that much here, however. As we mentioned, this is a recruiting game, but usually means more to the Iowa State program, which has covered seven of the last eight times these two have tangled. Last week, Iowa had life-and-death with a weak Syracuse team that had lost eleven of its previous 12 games, going to overtime without the services of Tate, who had an abdominal strain. That injury still brings about questions, although coach Kirk Ferentz explains that Tate looked "pretty sharp" in practices. Of course, in practice he hadn't been hit yet. Iowa State has dealt Iowa two of its last three pointspread losses at home (over a period of four years). THE PLAY: IOWA STATE *** |
